Daasebre’s Producer Turns Actor

Fred Nuamah, producer of popular Ghanaian high life singer, Daasebre Dwamena, has opened a new chapter in his career. Last week he appeared in Abdul Salam Mumunis latest movie Princes Bride, where he played Steve, the Prince of Zumba, who got married to rising actress Ingrid Alabi.

The two unfortunately met their untimely death in a terrible car accident, leaving behind their newly born baby girl who grew up to look exactly like her mom. In an interview with Beatwaves over the weekend, the producer, who is also the manager of Joseph Agbeko, the IBF Bantamweight World Boxing Champion and a couple of Ghanaian footballers, said his role in the movie was not his first. According to Fred, his first acting role was a Nigeria-Ghana collaboration titled Lost Family. It was shot about four to five years ago but was released only two years ago. It was through my late brother, Kwame Owusu Ansah, that I got that role.

I visited him on set when they were shooting the movie and a guy who was supposed to play a top policeman didnt show up, so I decided to help them out. That is how I got the role, he said. Currently, Fred disclosed, apart from Princes Bride he is also featured in three of Abdul Salams yet to be released movies, two of which are titled Dons of Sakawa and Material Girls. The producer, who is noted for wearing suits, told this paper that his entering the movie industry was for two reasons; to study the business atmosphere, as he is likely to produce his own movies in the not too distant future and secondly for the celebrity.

He explained that he had seen a number of people became stars and turned arrogant as a result. He thus wanted to test the tenets of fame and see how it feels, to help him manage stars. Asked about his impressions so far, having joined the industry; Fred appeared comfortable with the new trade, Business-wise, I have my results now. Not excellent though, but the results are good. The aspect of getting the fame to manage other stars is yet to come. It will take time, he instigated.

For many people outside Ghanas showbiz circles, Freds face might be new but his name is certainly not. He started his career 16 years ago as a radio presenter and marketing executive on Volta Premier Radio before moving to Volta Star Radio. Through his job, he met Daasebre Dwamena in 1996-97 and became his publicist. When the musicians signed with Mark Okraku Mantes Slip music, he went on to work for them as a publicist. Fred and Daasebre later left Slip music after a misunderstanding and he has since been producing Daasebre.
